Wrestling Training with Stones & Sandbags

In the video above, you see some seriously primitive full body strength and conditioning for wrestlers using atlas stones and sandbags.

That’s me, shouldering a 175 lb atlas stone. As the Coach, I gotta walk the talk!

Scott Winston, a Rutgers Wrestler, tears into some sandbag training.

Too many wrestlers train only their sports skill or use circuit training as their primary method of conditioning.

STRENGTH is paramount for wrestling training and should also be a focus as it will improve wrestling speed, power and overall conditioning.

The stone was used for shouldering which works the entire body of a wrestler, or ANY athlete for that matter.

The sandbag clean & press is another full body movement wrestlers and all other athletes should use.

The sandbag training engages the grip intensely, another critical area which wrestlers and ALL athletes should train.

Enjoy the Video & Please pass this web site on to other wrestlers, parents, athletes or wrestling coaches who can learn from our videos.

Till the next time….

NJ Wrestlers Quit Wrestling Team

Dec 29
Posted by Zach Filed in Announcements, Articles, Training Videos

My old Wrestling Coach from high school is back in the game, coaching at the high school level again.

Problem is, he works the kids too hard.

You’re not allowed to work kids hard nowadays.

The kids will quit.

Their parents will complain to the administration and you’ll be out of the job.

Hard Work isn’t valued as it once was. Expectations are less and people are always worried about offending others.

Boo Hoo.

This is why I run my gym the way I do. You don’t work hard, you’re GONE.

I don’t encourage mediocrity or allow excuses to be made.

Today’s Generation needs a change.

You’re either part of the problem or part of the solution. Make up your mind.

When The Underground Strength Gym was created, it was in a garage, my backyard and some unknown playgrounds and backwoods areas.

The wrestlers who began here went on to become all state wrestlers.

In the beginning though, they were unable to qualify for their region tournament and one even broke his collar bone due to lack of tendon & ligament strength.

Here’s a glimpse of the past that changed the scene of NJ wrestling forever, as Underground trained athletes are now dominating their sports.

These athletes were ultra dedicated and it’s NOT the norm for today’s athletes who spend less and les time training and more and more time on the computer.

There is no middle of the road when it comes to having the desire to win.

You either want to win or you don’t.

Which type of athlete are you?

Wrestling Training in Edison, NJ

If you’re trying to prepare yourself for the upcoming wrestling season, rather than running for distance, which kills the knees and ankles, you should try the below medicine ball complex for wrestling training.

The medicine ball complex is perfect for wrestlers, as it develops full body conditioning and power endurance – TWO critical traits a wrestler needs to become successful, especially with the highly competitive NJ wrestling scene.

The wrestling med ball complex above is performed by former NJ wrestler, Dan White, who was training with us since the garage days :)

This was performed right before Dan was leaving to train in Colorado at The Olympic Training Center.

Dan White was actually my first Underground client back when the training began in the garage of my house in Edison, NJ.

Give the workout a shot if you wanna kick ass the way Dan did, who became a national prep champ and a Beast of the East champ.

Not too shabby!

Peace!

Blair Wrestling Teams Up with Underground Strength Gym

Nov 1

The Blair Wrestling Team is a national powerhouse, dominating the prep national scene for 30 years. In addition, these NJ wrestlers are moving to many D1 wrestling teams and some even become NAVY SEALs.

Under Head Wrestling Coach, Jeff Buxton, who teaches more than just wrestling, he teaches life skills, I have NEVER witnessed an entire room, of fully dedicated and motivated athletes, not even at the college level.

This video speaks louder than my words, as you can see The Blair Wrestling team going through a workout at The Underground Strength Gym in Edison, NJ.

When Coach Buxton and I connected via e mail, he was 100% open to learning new methods to take his wrestlers to the next level.

This is coming from a Coach who has a team that hasn’t lost a prep national title in 30 years!

I’ve seen teams have losing records for 5 years or more and not have 1% the motivation of Coach Buxton to help their wrestling team.

The Moral of the Story: You are NEVER good enough, you can always get better. Wrestling is part of the puzzle, strength, speed, conditioning and mental training are other pieces of the puzzle.

Are you filling in ALL the pieces of YOUR puzzle?

Think about that.

PS: As you can see from the video with The Blair Wrestlers, we are ALL business. Yes, we have a blast when we train, BUT, if you want to become part of The Underground Strength Gym you better be more motivated than anyone else you know. If not, you are probably not a good fit for The Underground.

If you are highly motivated and want to WIN, BIG time, then give us a call and we can schedule your trial workout.
