Yesterday we had a crew of athletes training at The Underground, and one of our athletes brought his friend.
His friend was just going to watch.
I told him to jump in and test drive it, get a workout in.
He responded, “Naaaaaaa, I’m tired”.
I said to him, “Tired? Are you varisty? Do you want to get better?”
He answered, “No, not varsity, I just want to get ready to train with you b/c I heard it’s hard.”
My reply, “You’re tired, you’re not varisty, you’re waiting to get ready to train here? You’re not the kind of athlete we train. If you want to win what better time than NOW is there?”
As you can tell, I was pissed off.
I am annoyed by laziness and procrastination.
Where is the fire and burning desire to win?
Pass a f-r-e-e workout up because you’re tired?
Can you really be successful with this attitude?
Our job at The Underground is to get YOU stronger, faster, more explosive, tougher and in excellent condition.
We don’t care how “ready” you are when you show up, that’s OUR job, to get you ready.
You just need to take action and want it bad enough.
This kid sat there reading a newspaper.
I am apalled at this lack of motivation, lack of passion and lack of drive to succeed.
Un-Freakin-Real!
Kill it!

PS: Do you want it bad enough? Maybe you’re a parent reading this. Are you helping your child compete at his / her best?

PPS: Imagine how successful athletes would be if they had the type of drive in the video below…..Just imagine…
It’s funny, way too often people think that if they simply use the same equipment as a world class athlete does, they too will achieve world class status.
Wrong.
There are other gyms who use sandbags, tractor tires, kettlebells, etc – as do we at The Underground Strength Gym. So now we can assume they will achieve the same results elsewhere as they would here, correct?
Wrong.
We have athletes coming here from other gyms who use tractor tires, sandbags, etc and they come here unable to do 1 pull up! Something is wrong here!
Why does every gym in America have a bench press, yet in some gyms benching 315 makes you the strongest guy in the gym, while in other gyms, 315 means jack shit. It means you don’t touch the i pod, it means you don’t ask questions, it means you shut up and train.
The differenceis atmosphere and the methods being used.
The tools don’t matter much if you don’t know how to use them to their best effect.
The tools and methods mean that much less if the atmosphere is crap and noone is being pushed to their limits.
So, if you have tires and kettlebells, good for you. You better know how to best implement these tools into an overall program, throughout the entire year, when to deload, when to push, how long to use a certain training cycle and when to back off, when to switch movements and methods on the fly due to the daily fluctuations of energy, mind set and physical health of athletes.
In the video below, I see people benching over 600 lbs, squatting over 800 lbs – I don’t need to go there because guess what, I have a bench and squat rack in my gym too.
Right?
Wrong!
Time to shut up, don’t ask questions, listen and train.
Pay attention, class is in session!
If you’re not pushing to break records and be the best while you’re at The Underground Strength Gym – you’re going HOME!
This is a place for die hard serious athletes.
Do you want in?
Only if you have been referred or invited.
No walk ins.
Peace,
–Coach Z–
PS: I don’t give a shit if I have 5 athletes training here. Numbers are NOT my motive, I want those who have the eye of the tiger. Unfortunately, less and less athletes have the eye of the tiger. Don’t waste our time unless you have the eye of the tiger.

I still remember that photo and poem on the wall in my old gym.
It was dead center above the squat rack, the only squat rack in the gym.
It was an OLD black & white photo of Tom Platz squatting, a photo I have never been able to find on the net or anywhere else.
Tom was squatting with a bending bar, he looked to be in college, his legs, of course, looked like tree trunks!
Under the photo was a poem in a frame, and it always strikes me, even so many years after I have been gone from Diamond Gym.
“There are those that do
and those that don’t”
“Those that will
and those that won’t”
That photo and poem were surely placed their for a reason, which was to ensure we never backed down on the toughest exercise around, the barbell back squat.
The poem brings me to a point, which is that I have been seeing a lot of those that won’t lately.
A lot of people talking instead of walking.
There is a line MANY will NOT cross when it comes to pursuing their goals and dreams. There is that top 1, 2 or 3% that will cross that like though. And that top 3 % will achieve BIG things, they will break barriers and change the world.
But, it all begins with ACTION, and this my friend, takes WORK.
Work is something sooooo many people forget about. HARD WORK.
A perfect example. JP Stevens Wrestling team received a special 2 week FREE invite to the gym.
How many showed up and took advantage of the FREE training?
ONE.
What line will you cross to achieve your goals?
Or, will you simply talk the talk?
Kill it!

PS: The Underground Strength Gym accepts those who DO. We have a 1 day trial where we test YOU, to see if you are mentally prepared for the work ahead to help you become the best. Not everyone is accepted, but, for those that are accepted…… they crush the competition.

Yesterday I spent 30 minutes with the South Plainfield Wrestling Club training them with some Underground bodyweight and partner drills.
It was refreshing to be around an entire crew of motivated wrestlers.
Yep, I’m still disgusted with the ENTIRE team that doesn’t even take advantage of 2 FREE weeks of Underground training.
There were 5 year olds at this club working their butts off.
The Coaches were awesome, how cna you go wrong with guys like Matt Anderson and Steve Giordano.
Matt was a 4 time state finalist in NJ and Steve was a state champion and took 4th in the country at my old college, Kean University.
These wrestlers went through various gymnastics type drills, partner carries and hand walking drills.
Simple stuff, but very tough and VERY effective.
With a large group of wrestlers at the SP Wrestling club (looks like we had near 50 – 60 kids) it was tough to get super detailed.
But….I’m in the works with an off site Underground Gladiator Pre Season program that I will be holding at Gene Lezark’s CJA Wrestling Club.
We will limit this to a small number to ensure top quality.
It’s going to prove the power of bodyweight training. I feel sorry for their competition after I am done molding these kids into beastly Gladiators!
Until the next time,
Kill it!

PS: Much of my combative partner drills are in my home study course, found at http://UndergroundStrengthManual.com - I suggest you check it out if you’re at all serious about winning.
Winning doesn’t require “thinking about it”, it requires taking massive action. What will you do?

Went to a wrestling club today and took them through some training.
Spoke to them about winning and preparation at the end and they all said they wanted to win more than anything else.
Yet they all do the same thing: go to a wrestling club, and wrestle.
No dedicated off season / in season training program, just wrestling.
At the end, I asked the parents who watched if they had any questions.
As a parent, you want to make sure your kid is fully prepared when competing in a sport, right? I’m a parent, I sure as heck would like that option and will take advantage of it.
These parents? No questions, their kids are ready….to do the same as last year.
Another kid runs – his father told me so. Well, everyone else is running, and distance running sucks crap for athletes, unless of course, we’re talking about a Cross Country runner.
You have the option to gain the unfair advantage over your competition and you let it slide, just like 99% of the other athletes do.
The kid who is always breaking records, always dominating, well, we all know he is doing the extra things that you talk about doing yet never actually do.
There are those that do
and those that don’t
Those that will
and those that won’t
Which type of athlete are you?
Kill it!
–Coach Z–
PS: Want the unfair advantage and you are an athlete living in NJ? Then call The Underground Strength Gym in Edison, NJ or e mail us and we’ll help you kick ass and make things happen. No talking, just doing!
