Wrestling Training with Stones & Sandbags

In the video above, you see some seriously primitive full body strength and conditioning for wrestlers using atlas stones and sandbags.

That’s me, shouldering a 175 lb atlas stone. As the Coach, I gotta walk the talk!

Scott Winston, a Rutgers Wrestler, tears into some sandbag training.

Too many wrestlers train only their sports skill or use circuit training as their primary method of conditioning.

STRENGTH is paramount for wrestling training and should also be a focus as it will improve wrestling speed, power and overall conditioning.

The stone was used for shouldering which works the entire body of a wrestler, or ANY athlete for that matter.

The sandbag clean & press is another full body movement wrestlers and all other athletes should use.

The sandbag training engages the grip intensely, another critical area which wrestlers and ALL athletes should train.

Enjoy the Video & Please pass this web site on to other wrestlers, parents, athletes or wrestling coaches who can learn from our videos.

Till the next time….

Who do You Want to Train?

Ellis-LegRaise

Many people ask me if training Underground is just for athletes.

“What if I license my own Underground Strength Gym? Is it just for athletes?”

When I started my gym, I actually trained anyone and everyone.

Athletes during the day and evening and general fitness peeps rolled up at night.

In my gut, I wasn’t happy training non-competitive athletes.

I was still using sleds, kettlebells, sandbags, bodyweight and an overall aggressive style of training.

Some of the bodybuilders next door stopped by for their trial and were getting their ass handed to them by middle aged women.

In my heart, I waned to train athletes and only athletes. I stuck with my gut instinct and shut down the classes for training general fitness and filled those time slots with athletes.

Fitness does NOT discriminate against age, gender, etc. – train who you want with the methods and tools that fit best.

Make sure you fully understand the needs of your clientele and how to safely progress them through your training style.

All of our clients go through training phases to safely progress them to our workouts which we post on dry erase boards on the gym wall.

And in the end, I feel everyone should be trained like an athlete – trained to move!

Peace!

The Walls Were Sweating!

Apr 5

On Friday, our athletes were tearing it up so intensely that the walls were sweating!

Once this weather breaks on a regular basis and the rain is minimal we’ll be taking over the parking lot as well :)

Have a look for yourself…

For those of you on our waiting list, please hang in there and we’ll be opening up some slots shortly. We just brought in a small crew who have been waiting a while and took action ASAP.

Those who were accepted into our program were referred by others which is the best way to be accepted into our program.

Those who waited or took excessive time off during or after their sport season lost out on the opportunity to begin their training.

The Most Serious AND the Smartest athletes also understand the importance of training year round, not just off season or on / off through the year.

It’s obvious that those who are most serious take action the fastest.

They also do the most damage to their competition.

Till the next time,

–Coach Z–
